Starter Activities

The four starter activities in this resource all take the same format. On opening the file, students are presented with four questions to attempt. Clicking on one of the questions opens another page containing the question and space in which the solution can be written. Ideal for use with and interactive whiteboard.

The four questions in Foundation A are subtraction of fractions, increase by a percentage, factorise an expression and express a number as the product of its primes.

Foundation B contains questions on ratio, solving linear equations, expressing one number as a percentage of another and multiplication of fractions expressed as mixed numbers.

Higher A contains questions asking students to sketch the graph of y=cos x, divide an amount into a given ratio, express a quadratic in completed square form and calculate the number of sides of a regular polygon given the size of the exterior angle.

Higher B requires students to change the units of an area, solve a linear equation, solve an inequality and simplify an expression using surds.
