Science special needs supplement

From The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC), this book looks at providing opportunities in science for students with specific learning needs. As well as advice and guidance, it includes details of a range of practical activities and investigations.

The book illustrates:
* potential barriers to learning in mainstream science activities
* how an activity can be adapted to raise student achievement
* a range of strategies which enable independent learning
* the importance of recognising how literacy skills develop
* the importance of recognising how numeracy skills develop

Details and student sheets are given for a range of activities that look at:
* warning signs used when transporting chemicals
* energy transfer from hot objects to cold ones
* nutrients needed for plant growth
* ecological survey data and maps
* forces and the movement of cycles and other vehicles
* acid rain
* building materials and chemical reactions - limestone with acid
