Career Case Study 11: Dr Emma Welsh

This STEMNET resource describes the background and career of STEM Ambassador Emma Welsh. She works as a reviewer, analysing data from clinical trials of treatments for chronic respiratory diseases.

Emma analyses information which is then used by doctors, health authorities and others to decide on which treatments are effective. The reports that Emma produces have to be very exact and clear so that decisions are made using the right information.

Emma became interested in science communications through an unpaid internship with the charity Sense About Science. She says, “I want to continue working in healthcare as it’s interesting, as well as providing an opportunity to contribute something that could be internationally beneficial.”
