Explaining Electric Current
Produced by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service, this resource is a kinaesthetic activity in which students experience being part of a 'circuit'. A rope loop is passed around the group to represent the current flowing in a circuit. One student, the power supply, adds movement to the rope. The students see that all of the rope (current) moves instantaneously and that it is the power supply that is doing work in adding energy to the circuit. The activity can also be used to introduce the idea of electrical resistance.
