Working Safely with Power Tools

Produced by LSIS, this activity uses a hands-on approach to translate theory into practice. It helps students to construct and adopt a personal, systematic approach to safe checking of power tools whenever they start work. By handling real power tools and checking for faults in the session, students apply their knowledge and internalise the principles of safe checking. Students are required to describe how to check for safety before plugging in a power tool for work and complete a flowchart and a list of correct ways to check for safety when using power tools. The card activity reinforces conclusions from the hands on part of the activity.
