Year Nine Booster Kit
This set of materials, produced by the Key Stage Three National Strategy, was designed to support schools in organising revision and running booster classes prior to students taking the Key Stage Three National Curriculum tests.
The materials comprise:
1. Guidance on
*Planning for revision inside and outside lesson time
*Supporting teaching and learning
*Using the booster kit
*Pupils’ performance in recent Key Stage Three tests (summary of QCA analysis)
*Using teaching objectives to secure improvements over time
*Implications for teaching and learning across the key stage
*Preparing for the tests: revision strategies.
2. A set of 12 booster lessons, (section 2), tightly focused on the skills, knowledge and understanding required to achieve levels five and six in mathematics. This set was later supplemented by four more lessons. The lessons are:
Lesson 1: Place value
Lesson 2: Fractions, decimals and percentages 1
Lesson 3: Fractions, decimals and percentages 2
Lesson 4: Using a calculator
Lesson 5: Ratio and proportion
Lesson 6: Algebraic expressions
Lesson 7: Sequences
Lesson 8: Lines and angles
Lesson 9: Area
Lesson 10: Circles
Lesson 11: Probability
Lesson 12: Solving word problems
Lesson 13: Algebraic equations
Lesson 14: Handling data
Lesson 15: Ratio and proportion 2
Lesson 16: Problem solving
