Mathematics Quality and Assessment Tests: Year 7 Progress Tests
The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) developed the Year Seven Progress Tests as a measure of progress over the year from Key Stage 2, at one point all students that did not attain a level four in the Key Stage Two tests could take these tests, which covered National Curriculum levels three to four.
There are three elements, Paper 1 to be completed in 45 minutes without the aid of a calculator, Paper 2 where a calculator is allowed, and the mental test. The tests were marked externally in the same way as the end of Key Stage tests.
The Standards Report evaluated the 2003 Year Seven progress tests. Its purpose is to provide schools and those involved in the training of teachers with detailed information about student responses to the tests. The report is based on the detailed analysis of the performance of a sample of students whose total mark was just above, or just below, the threshold for level four. The information highlights the difference in performance between these two groups of students and indicates important implications for teaching and learning.
