The Mathematics of Beam Deflection
In this resource students are to play the role of a structural engineer working on the design of a prestigious new hotel complex.
As a design engineer students have to carry out complex calculations on the structures steelwork needed to make the building viable. Part of these calculations include assessing the maximum deflections that will occur in the beams. Students will apply numerical integration techniques to solve design problems seen in real life situations.
The detailed resource notes include introductory materials, background theory, questions and information for teachers.
