Preventing Heart Disease
This Problem Solving with Industry module was devised by the Centre for Science Education in collaboration with local health promotion groups. In this module the problem is to design an effective campaign or a piece of material promoting ‘Healthy Hearts’. This can then be used in the School or College community
Tasks
- Task one - reading background information about what coronary heart disease is and what it costs the National Health Service.
- Task two - reading an information sheet about behaviours that contribute to the risk of coronary heart disease and then carrying out some text-based activities.
- Task three - designing a survey to evaluate the health-related behaviour of people within the school or college.
- Task four - devising criteria for judging health promotion literature and then evaluating some examples of leaflets and booklets.
- Task five – designing and producing a health promotion leaflet or poster that can then be used as a focus for a health promotion campaign in the school or college.
