Collaborative Memory

This video resource from Teachers TV features mathematics teacher Susanne Mallett as she delivers a lesson on collaborative memory to Year Eight students at Comberton Village College. The lesson is designed to revise a specific topic on solving equations but can be adapted for many other situations. Students are challenged to work collaboratively and recreate a poster which includes diagrams and relevant information. Timed sessions of 15 seconds are used for students to memorise the poster and relate the information back to other members of their team, promoting lively discussion and engaging students in the process. The principle behind the activity remains that the sheet is easier to reproduce by using mathematical insight rather than by trying to remember the whole thing.
