Vectors

This video resource from Teachers TV is presented by Wendy Fortescue-Hubbard who demonstrates some practical applications of vectors. Heather Reinecke, Head of Mathematics at Coombe Dean School in Plymouth, introduces vectors to a class of higher tier Year Ten students, who measure two sides of a right angled vector triangle and then the resultant vector. Scale drawings and Pythagoras' theorem emphasise the need for accuracy and vector notation is explored using an interactive website. Wendy goes on to show how vectors can also represent velocities and forces, while in the classroom practical activities help students to make sense of vectors.
