Product Design: Pop Bottles

From The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC), these materials consist of three parts relating to the choice of materials and production processes involved in the manufacture of plastic bottles for carbonated drinks. The three sections are:

Section 1 is concerned with the shape and other design features of plastic pop bottles and consists of four student activities.

Section 2 is a series of practical activities to investigate some aspects of plastic bottle and pressure technology.

Section 3 is an activity which engages students in preparation for an industrial site visit.

The range of practical investigations include:
* Which design features should be considered?
* Designing a plastic pop bottle
* Materials for pop bottles
* Measuring the pressures in a lemonade bottle
* Does it keep its fizz?
* Stability
* Adhesives for labels

The materials contain full teacher guidance, student notes and activity sheets.
