Decimals 2
From the Nuffield Foundation, this module focuses on the use of decimals in multiplication and division and then on applications which include averages, speed calculations and rounding.
The resource consists of:
* Introduction: the teachers' notes on theoretical underpinning and layout of calculations.
* A cards and notes: multiplication and division of decimals by whole numbers.
* B cards and notes: averages (means) and rounding.
* C cards and notes: use of mechanical desk calculator (historical interest), repeating decimal patterns, decimals on a number line, use of nomogram, use of speed formula.
* D cards and notes: more on averages.
The workcards have detailed ‘Notes for the teacher’ and some cards have ‘Notes for the pupil’. There is a brief overview of the content of the ‘Decimals 1’ module.
