Space and Rocket Week

This video from Teachers TV features an idea for a cross-curricular space and rocket week. Last year, Eleanor Wilkinson, a mathematics teacher from Sussex, spent 10 days at the Teachers' Space Camp in Alabama and came back inspired to enthuse students about space.

She arranged for her Year Eight class to spend four days looking at space and rockets in subjects as diverse as mathematics and art, and then embarked on a project to manage a one million pound rocket building budget. Divided into teams by the teachers, the students were encouraged to work independently and think for themselves.

The film looks at the teachers’ strategies to keep the students on task whilst also maintaining independent learning.
