The School Curriculum
This report from the Department of Education and Science published in March 1981 sets out the governments recommendations for the school curriculum for the 5-16 age range as a result of several years of public discussion and government consultation. This report predates, but would have influenced the content of, the National Curriculum.
The report covers the educational aims, a brief comment about resources, and the recommended approach for delivering the curriculum. Following this is a section which covers in greater detail the content of the primary curriculum paying particular attention to topic work, science, art and craft and French.
The secondary phase is considered next, paying specific reference to English, mathematics, science, modern languages, microelectronics, craft, design and technology and preparation for adult life.
The report concludes by suggestions as to ‘The Way Forward’.
