Following in Darwin's Footsteps

This Teachers TV programme follows the winners of the Rolls Royce Science Prize 2007, St Stephen & All Martyrs School, Bolton. They studied the classification of plants through their project Following in the Footsteps of Darwin.

In order to respond to a lack of interest in science within the school and having heard about the Science Prize, an active governor came up with the idea of recreating some of the experiments that Darwin performed. Using a patch of land behind their school, children collected samples of soil, leaves and insects and compared them to those found on the same site one hundred years ago with help from Bolton University.

This programme shows how this project and learning about Darwin as a scientist has resulted in an increased desire among children to learn about science and has allowed them to develop their scientific enquiry and thinking skills.
