Learning Science with Kyane

This programme from Teachers TV follows Kyane, a Year Four child at Erdington Hall Primary School in Birmingham. Kyane is on an individual educational and behaviour plan.

This programme shows his level of engagement during a science lesson on friction. Children work in groups to investigate friction using model vehicles, ramps and various textured surfaces, measuring the distance each surface allows the vehicle to travel. Kyane seems engaged for the most part, but finds the team work challenging. He later admits to being occasionally bored, but is able to explain much of the science he has been taught. Kyane is often behind with school work due to regular absence thorough asthma and often finds it difficult to concentrate on the task set. This programme may be useful for teachers facing children with similar challenges in the classroom.
