Whiteboard Numeracy: Decimals and Rotational Symmetry

In this programme from Teachers TV, primary mathematics consultant Darren Ellsum presents two lessons showing how ICT can be used to teach abstract concepts in numeracy.

In the first lesson, Year Four teacher Paul Greenwood uses the interactive whiteboard to show how to relate fractions to decimals. Children then play an online game in pairs to practise writing fractions as decimals. In the second lesson, Year Six teacher Friedel Kotze uses interactive slides to demonstrate rotational symmetry to a group of children who are identified as needing additional support with this topic. The children then create their own designs with a rotational order of three.
