The Teaching of Primary Science: Policy and Practice

This book, published in 1983 by the Falmer Press, was written following a national survey of primary schools in in 1978. The HMI Primary Survey provided a significant reassessment of the place of science in the primary curriculum. Instead of being a peripheral activity it was seen as having a place in every child's primary education. Written for students and teachers with an aim of developing an understanding for the place of science in primary schools and deepen understanding of science education. This book offers different viewpoints on the key issues teachers faced at that time, including what and how science should be taught, how it should be more widespread and how to evaluate this.
