Clean Water 1
This starter activity asks students to consider possible solutions to the world water shortage. It encourages students to identify the causes of water shortage in Britain, to think about their own water usage and consider how they may be able to save water at home.
After watching a video which illustrates the importance of clean water, students read the article ‘Recycle more sewage for water’ and give their opinions on the article’s suggestions for a possible solution to the world water shortage.
Students will be well aware of the global water shortage and may have experienced the effects of water companies imposing drought orders in their towns. This resource is part of the Pure Water scheme of work, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which is designed to see if they would be prepared to accept radical ideas to alleviate these problems, and is supported by the video Pure Water.
The activities explore whether technological developments can change the way we think and act, and ask students to consider how local activity can contribute to solving a global problem.
