Materials Testing 1

This activity asks students to plan and carry out an investigation to test the suitability of materials to absorb or insulate sound and to identify what other variables need to be considered when choosing a material to use in a building. Students also consider whether a particular material is the best material for a job when other variables of equal importance are considered.

This resource, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), can be used as a stand-alone activity or with the other resources in the Sound Design collection.

Curriculum links include sound absorption, amplitude, frequency and materials science.
