Number Sequences

This series of interactive excel sheets explore number sequences. Answers can be checked each time and new questions generated at the click of a button.

The first sheet invites students to give the next term in a sequence when counting on from a starting value. Click on the ‘?’ button to reveal each number in turn before being asked what the last two-digit value in the sequence will be.

In the second sheet students are given three terms in a sequence and have to find the following three terms, as well as the rule to get from one number to the next.

In the third sheet sequences can be shown on a range of number grids from a 4x4 to a 10x10 number square. Choose a staring value and click on any number to highlight it.

The fourth sheet again asks students to give the next term in a sequence when counting by a number between 6 and 12. In the following sheet students are given three terms, including negative values, in a sequence and have to find the following three terms, as well as the rule to get from one number to the next.

The sixth sheet investigates the patterns made by the last digit of terms in a sequence by plotting them within a circle. Vary the circle size and the value added on each time to generate new and interesting patterns.

The next sheet displays the patterns created by highlighting multiples on a 10x10 multiplication grid. Click on any square within the grid to highlight its contents.

In the final sheet students are given three terms in a sequence containing decimals and have to find the following three terms, as well as the rule to get from one number to the next.
