Problem Solving: Year One

This series of interactive excel sheet is aimed at Year One students and explores problem solving. New questions can be generated each time by the click of a button. To check the answers click on the smiley face.

In the first sheet two or three dice are rolled. Students have to alter the scores in order to reach a target score when added together.

The second sheet generates four numbers that must be placed so that the difference between adjacent numbers is more than 1.

The third sheet asks students to place numbers in a triangle so that each side adds to the selected target number.

In the fourth sheet students have to share up to 12 fish between either two, three or four tanks.

The fifth sheet looks to create a discussion by generating a series of tables of data including information on siblings, pets and transport. The following sheet produces a series of pictograms to investigate.

Two clocks are displayed in the seventh sheet. Students have to calculate the difference between the two times in hours and minutes.

The final sheet explores money calculations. Students have to find the money taken to the shops, money spent or change received.
