Modulus Functions

This interactive program deals with the modulus function applied to linear, quadratic, reciprocal and sine functions. The graph of each function is shown as well as the unreflected sections of the graphs.

The first interactive sheet shows the graphs of functions in the form y=|mx+c|. The gradient and intercept can be altered and the appropriate graph is shown.

The next two sheets show the graphs of quadratic functions in the forms y=|(x+a)(x+b)| and y=|ax2+bx+c| where all the parameters can be altered.

In the same way graphs of y=a/x+b and y=asin(bx)+c are illustrated on the next two sheets.

The final two sheets pose questions related to equations involving the modulus function. Students can toggle between the question and the graph which shows the appropriate functions. Solutions can be viewed or hidden.
