Geometric Series
This excel file allows students to explore the successive terms of a Geometric Series. The first term and the common ratio can be altered and the successive terms and sum of the series shown on bar charts. The formula for the sum of a Geometric Series is derived and the sum to infinity stated.
The last two interactive sheets require students to use these formulae to help them fill in gaps in tables of values relating to Geometric Series. Answers can be revealed or hidden and new sets of questions generated.
There are a further three sheets of questions which may be suitable for duplicated for classroom use.
Note
This program was designed by be viewed on a screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768. Users may have to adjust the resolution of their screen for the pages to display as was originally intended. The program uses macros which need to be enabled on users’ machines.
