Search and Rescue

This resource puts students in charge of an RAF search and rescue operation in the UK. To do this, they are provided with support and advice from a number of experts at different points during the rescue. They work as a team to discuss this advice and choose the best course of action, justifying the reasons for their choices

When thirteen people are reported missing on Mount Snowdon in bad weather, students are presented with three plans and must evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each plan: a helicopter search, helicopter search and pick up, and a ground search and rescue. Students are then given more information, which they must rank in order of importance before finally planning the mission.

The resource also looks at the careers available in the RAF.
