Reception/Year Autumn Term

This resource has been created for mixed age classes of early years and lower primary children. Containing two weekly plans which support learning about number, place value and addition, objectives covered in the lessons include:

Week One

  • Counting up to 10, then 20 objects
  • Recognising and estimating numbers more and less than 6, then 10
  • Placing numbers on a number line
  • Ordering numbers
  • Finding a number between two numbers under 10
  • Mental addition to make ‘teen’ numbers by adding more to 10
  • Partitioning ‘teen’ numbers
  • Partitioning 5 into pairs and recording the related additions and adding by counting on

Week Two

  • Recognise dice numbers without counting
  • Say the next number to a given number up to 10
  • Partition 5 into pairs
  • Record the related additions
  • Add a small number by counting on
  • Add 1 or 2 to numbers to 6 or 10 by counting on

The detailed weekly plans provide guidance on running the activities, including differentiated activities for the different year groups, guided tasks and the resources required for each lesson. This resource, which is linked to the 2014 Early Years curriculum, has been provided by Hamilton Trust.

The Hamilton website also hosts a wealth of other free resources.
