Year Five Summer Term
This resource supports the learning of number, place value, decimals and Roman numerals for primary children from nine to ten years of age. Two detailed weekly plans contain differentiated activities, guided and independent tasks and a list of resources required for each lesson. Objectives covered in the lessons include:
Week One
- Compare and order negative numbers
- Count back in steps through zero
- Mental addition and subtraction of 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000 and 100,000 to and from six-digit numbers using place value
- Place six-digit numbers on landmarked lines and empty lines
- Round 6-digit numbers to the nearest 1000, 10,000, and 100,000
Week Two
- Read Roman numerals to 1000 (M) and recognise years written in Roman numerals
- Revise 2-place decimals
- Introduce 3-place decimals
- Mental multiplication and division by 10, 100, 1000
