Molarity

This simulation explores the factors which determine the concentration of a solution. It illustrates the relationships between moles, litres and molarity by adjusting the amount of solute and solution volume.

The moles of solute and the volume of solution (water) can be changed using sliders to make solutions with different concentrations. Numerical values can be hidden for understanding qualitative relationships, or shown for calculations or data collection.

The simulation can be used to:

*Describe the relationships between volume and amount of solute to concentration.

*Explain how solution colour and concentration are related.

*Calculate the concentration of solutions in units of molarity (mol/L).

*Use molarity to calculate the dilution of solutions.

*Compare solubility limits between solutes.
