Create a travel information system

This activity, suitable for a cross-STEM project day or series of lessons, focuses on how information can be provided to travellers on the London Underground. Students are asked to consider user needs – what information would they need to see, and how might their requirements be communicated? A deep understanding of design constraints is encouraged, and a range of input and output devices explored. An accompanying video helps them to understand the context of the problem. Students then use the scrolling text display function of the BBC micro:bit to display messages following user input. An extension task challenges students to integrate the micro:bit into a full product, and to allow for a greater range of information categories to be displayed.
