Order- Positive and Negative Numbers

This series of interactive excel sheets look at ordering both positive and negative numbers. Answers can be checked each time and new questions generated at the click of a button.

In the first sheet five randomly generated integers have to be placed in either ascending or descending order. In the following sheet the numbers to be ordered include decimals to three decimal places.

The third sheet generates five fractions to be placed in order.

In the fourth sheet students are to select two numbers and discover the value that is half way between them. The value one-quarter and three-quarters between the selected numbers can also be revealed. The size of the numbers involved can be varied.

The fourth sheet generates an inequality statement in which students have to complete the missing value from a bank of possible answers.

Five questions are generated in the fifth sheet. Students have to decide if the ‘less than’, ‘equal to’ or ‘greater than’ inequality sign goes between two numbers.

In the next sheet students have to complete a sentence describing temperature changes. A thermometer is displayed above and answers can be revealed one at a time to help students.

The eighth sheet shows a distance-time graph for an airliner’s journey, in feet. Students have to complete the sentence describing the journey. Shown an animation of the plane’s journey by clicking on the values in the sentence.

The final sheet generates a line graph four the temperatures during a day in four European cities for Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. Click on the table to reveal the temperature at a certain time. A map of the locations involved can also be shown.
