Place Value: Year Five

This series of interactive excel sheets is aimed at Year Five students and explores place value. New questions can be generated each time by the click of a button. To check the answers click on the smiley face.

The first sheet generates a series of eight numbers. Students have to match the number in words with the equivalent value in digits.

In the second sheet students are asked to successively multiply a value by 10 three times. In the following sheet students have to multiply a series of numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

The third sheet generates a random value. Click on each of the digits in turn to show what each value represents.

The fourth sheet generates twelve multiplication questions. Students have to complete the blanks in each calculation. The following sheet generates twelve division questions.

The final sheet looks to generate discussions on ‘numbers in words’, successive multiplication and division by 10 and multiplying by powers of ten. The sheet generates a series of values, in words and digits, each ten times more than the previous number.
