Fractions: Year Six

This series of interactive excel sheets aimed at Year six students explores fractions. Answers can be checked each time and new questions generated at the click of a button.

In the first sheet students have to match up six top heavy fractions with their mixed number equivalent.

The second sheet generates a fraction at random and explores what happens when you multiply the top and bottom by the same value to get an equivalent fraction. Select the multiplier and then click to reveal the fraction that the multiplication creates.

The third sheet generates a fraction for students to cancel down into its simplest form. Students have to select a common factor and the reduced fraction can then be revealed. Up to five divisions are possible.

The fourth sheet contains a series of nine simplifying fraction questions.

The fifth sheet generates a top-heavy fraction for students to cancel down into its simplest form. Again students have to select a common factor and the reduced fraction can then be revealed and up to five divisions are possible.

The following sheet contains a series of nine simplifying fraction questions involving improper fractions.

In the seventh sheet students have to find a fraction that lies between two other fractions. The level of difficultly can be changed, in each case students have to select a common denominator, reveal the numerators and finally select a numerator for the middle fraction.

The eighth sheet generates a decimal number to be converted into a fraction and then cancelled down. The next sheet generates a set of six decimals for students to convert into a fraction. Click the answers again to reveal the simplest form.

The following sheet contains twelve questions multiplying a fraction by a whole number.

The final sheet contains a colourful fraction wall.

Note: this program was designed to be viewed on a screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768. Users may have to adjust the resolution of their screen for the pages to display as was originally intended. The program uses macros which need to be enabled on the users machine.
