Why the congestion charge and low emission zones?
This lesson introduces ideas about combustion, incomplete combustion and the production of carbon monoxide, particulates and their relationship to health.
Learning outcomes:
- Students could produce and write symbol equations for the combustion of carbon and methane using models.
- They should explain how combustion results in the production of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and carbon particles.
- Students should describe the health effects of a build up of carbon monoxide and particulates in the environment. They must be able to name combustion as the reaction producing energy to drive transport vehicles.
