Flow rates through revolving doors

This resource from the IET Faraday programme, supported by MEI and Tomorrow's Engineers, provides students with the opportunity to explore the mathematics behind revolving doors, including circle properties, estimation, compound measures and mathematical modeling.

"Revolving doors are energy efficient as they prevent drafts (via acting as an airlock), thus preventing increases in the heating or cooling required for the building. At the same time, revolving doors allow large numbers of people to pass in and out. But this is not always the case..."

The resource includes a presentation that introduces the task and a series of questions for students to explore. The activity overview includes classroom notes, discussion points, extension activity suggestions, answers, additional materials and details of the curriculum content covered.
