Representing data with grouped frequency graphs and box plots

This is a problem solving lesson where students develop their understanding of how to interpret frequency graphs that use grouped data, together with their associated box plots. Particular attention is paid to minimum and maximum values, medians and quartiles.

The lesson begins with students interpreting frequency graphs. There is then a matching exercise where a series of frequency graphs must be matched to box plots and descriptions. Some of the box plots could fit more than one frequency graph. In addition there is a blank box plot so that students can construct their own to match one of the frequency graphs.
