Making rain
In this STEM activity pupils will perform an experiment to investigate how rain falls from clouds. The activity asks pupils to spray shaving foam on top of a glass of water to create a ‘cloud’, before adding food colouring and watching as the cloud fills up, producing ‘rain’. Pupils will then have the opportunity to discuss their findings as a class. This activity could be used as a starter or a main activity to introduce the causes of rain, or you could use it as part of a wider scheme of learning focussing on seasonal changes and the weather. This activity supports the Year 1 Science curriculum and has been provided by the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).
