Collision frequency

These diagnostic questions and response activities (contained in the zip file) support students in being able to:

  • Predict that two substances in the gas state will react without mechanical mixing.
  • Recognise that a successful collision between molecules is a collision where a new product molecule (or molecules) is formed.
  • Use this idea of collision frequency to explain how pressure affects rate of reaction.
  • Predict that two substances in solution will react without mechanical mixing.
  • Use the idea of collision frequency to explain how surface area and concentration affect rate of reaction.

 

The resources include details of common misconceptions and a summary of the research upon which the resources are based.
