Making a traditional Chinese two-stringed instrument
One of a set of resources from the IET that uses the theme of the Chinese and Lunar New Year to help pupils develop their knowledge and skills in design and technology, and engineering.
In this activity pupils learn about and make a Chinese two-stringed musical instrument called an Erhu. They will learn about the purpose of an Erhu and its main parts, then use hand tools and equipment to manufacture their own Erhu and test it.
This resource could be used as a main lesson activity to develop pupils' practical skills or to explore how cultural factors influence work within design and technology and engineering.
