The eight case studies in this book have been selected to show the range and scope of design studies used in general education in secondary schools - that is, with the aim of giving pupils an appreciation of the processes underlying out material culture and environment. They include projects with themes draw from graphic design, home economics, crafts, product design and architecture, but all the work described has wider social and environmental aspects, and the emphasis throughout is on the meaning the projects has for the pupils and teachers concerned, rather than on their end products.
