Coloured things stages 1 and 2: a unit for teachers (science 5/13)

Science 5/13 is aimed at helping teaches help children between the ages of five and thirteen years to learn science through first-hand experience using a variety of methods. The project produces books that comprise units dealing with subject areas in which children are likely to conduct investigations.

Coloured things: This unit is about coloured things: it is not solely concerned with colour. Children are as likely to end up studying Eskimos, via rainbows and Northern Lights, as they are to investigate adhesives, starting with an interest in coloured papers. Such an eclectic approach is reflected in the unit. Some of its suggestions for children's activities relate directly to colour itself whilst others use an interest in coloured things as a springboard to other areas of investigation, since this is the way young children operate.
