Introducing Mathematics is designed to give readers the essentials of mathematical literacy. The Search for Pattern illustrates such themes as the Binomial Theorem or quadratic equations by showing examples of their use in scientific work or in books which make some use of measurements, graphs, or statistics. Those who, without being specialists, need a quantum of mathematical knowledge in their work or their reading will gain it here more informally and painlessly than from standard textbooks.
