Investigating Cast Products

This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), focuses on understanding that changing the composition of a material will affect its properties and characteristics.

It is intended that students will be able to:
• explain how to develop a product or material in order to improve the outcome
• explain how to set up an experiment that allows key decisions to be made from the outcome
• be able to carry out a manufacturing and testing programme, understanding the importance of time allowance and quality control

This activity involves investigating how the proportion of PVA glue added to plaster of Paris affects the properties of the material produced in a cast product. Curriculum links include chemical reactions and materials.

The activity is part of a full set of resources called D30 and is supported by the the video Amazing D30.
