Produced by Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme, the resources in this section help students to develop their skills in scientific reading.

This skill area concentrates on reading three types of scientific texts:

Instructional texts, such as text books, which describe scientific concepts, curriculum content, wider scientific examples and provide enrichment.

Reviews in which the writer organizes, formulates and summarizes previous research studies performed on a certain topic. These texts are found in reference books or as articles in periodicals.

Research articles, which are the principal tool of communication used by researchers, in which they report on the results of one or more studies on a certain topic. Published in professional journals, reference books, or publications of original studies, the target audience generally consists of science professionals.

There are trainer development materials associated with the delivery of these learning activities. They can be found at: LSS Skill Area 3 Training.
