Teachers’ Guide 1

The Nuffield Working with Science Project devised and produced a new source of material for students continuing their studies for a year after their basic grounding in science. The material used learning methods and topics appropriate to the inclinations, interests and expectations of young adults.

Aims of Teachers’ Guide 1
The aims of the first guide were:
1. to introduce the teacher to the ideas of the project and the materials the student will be working with
2. to identify the students for whom the project was devised
3. to describe how teachers have used the materials outside the target group
4. to pass on the benefit of experience in the trials
5. to acknowledge the contributions of writers and of teachers in the trials,
and so to indicate how the materials were produced - and the value of continuing to produce the Units in this way
6. to help teachers to introduce students to small-group learning
