Engineers Can Reinvent Nature

This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), is useful as a quick introduction to a lesson looking at the properties of modern materials.

The resource is part of the Nature Reinvented scheme of work, which encourages students to investigate the properties of smart materials and explores the possible moral and ethical issues associated with people potentially choosing to replace healthy body parts with artificial prostheses because they offer higher performance.

The activity is supported by the films Bionic Limbs, Nature Reinvented, and Prosthetic Design.

Curriculum links include bionics, prosthetics, smart materials and the applications and implications of science.
