Making Choices: Why Choose STEM Subjects?

These videos have been developed for the National HE STEM Programme project ‘becoming a STEM enthusiast’ to be used in conjunction with the activities found in this collection.

Making choices features six staff giving their perspective as to why choosing to study any STEM subject at HE level is a good idea.

Professor Peter Cox explains that he believes becoming a scientist gives an insight into modern life and Professor Frances Wall says why she became a geologist. Professor Peter Vukusic and Dr Alastair Hibbins talk about how physics explains everything; Dr Barrie Cooper tells how his interests in a variety of areas lead to a desire to understand more about mathematics and Professor Chris Smith explains that engineering is about solving problems and making the world a better place.

In the second video Professor Peter Cox explains why he become a scientist.
