Circular Economy

This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), allows students to develop understanding of two conceptual approaches to environmental issues - the linear economy and the circular economy - in the context of the design and operation of a new school.

Students ‘brainstorm’ a list of ‘green activities’ - things done to protect the environment or in response to environmental issues. They then split their responses into two categories – activities which extend the amount of time before resources run out and activities which allow us to continue indefinitely (sustainable activities). Alternatively, the 6R’s (reduce, rethink, refuse, recycle, reuse, repair) could be used as a framework to identify different specific examples of ‘green activity’.

This resource is supported by the video Green School and by supporting activities in the Green School sub-collection.
