CAD design project

This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and technology (IET), focuses on the design of a tessellated product and preparation for manufacture. The resource is designed to allow students to:
• be able to analyse a design brief
• be able to generate ideas for a tessellated product that is suitable for batch manufacture
• be able to produce a CAD drawing of a design idea

The activity involves designing a modular product that could be made in batches using the casting process, and making a mould that could be used to make this product. The key aim of this stage of the activity is to design a shape that can be tessellated, have a practical application and would look aesthetically pleasing as a modular set of products that can lock together. There are two supporting presentations that show examples of cast products and modular products.

There is a follow up activity entitled ‘Investigating Batch Production 2’ activity.

The activity is part of a full set of resources called D30 and is supported by the the video Amazing D30.
